Dr. Kana M. Sureshan was born in Kerala, India. He was a Gold medalist during higher secondary education. He did B. Sc. and M.Sc. from University of Calicut and PhD (2002) from National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, India. He then moved to Ehime University, Japan (2002-2004) as a JSPS postdoctoral Fellow. After spending two years in Japan, in 2004 he moved to the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, University of Bath, U. K. as a Research Officer. From October 2006-June 2008, he was working as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in the department of Chemical Biology, Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology, Dortmund, Germany. Presently he is a Senior Scientist in the Institute of Life Sciences, Hyderabad, INDIA.
Dr. Sureshan has been awarded various prestigious scholarships and awards such as Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, JSPS Fellowship, Junior Research Fellowship of CSIR, Senior Research Fellowship of CSIR, State Merit Scholarship (1991-1996) and National Merit Scholarship (1991-1996). His biographical sketch has been cited in Marqui's Who is Who in the World, Marqui's Who's Who in Asia and Marqui's Who's Who in Science and Technology.
He has delivered invited lectures at various institutes in India and abroad.
Dr. Sureshan has 34 papers in reputed international journals to his credit. He has served as the reviewer for various journals (Carbohydr. Res., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Tetrahedron, Tetrahedron Asymmetry, J. Org. Chem. Tetrahedron Letters, J. Mol. Structure, J. Carbohydr. Chem). He is the editorial Board Member of the journal OPEN GLYCOSCIENCE (from 2008) and has been invited to serve as the Guest Editor for an issue of Currrent Bioactive Compounds. His research interests are Medicinal Chemistry, Chemical Biology and Organic Synthesis. |
