The Seeker wishes understand potential models for sourcing and integrating reliable and validated regional food databases. Various food analysis databases exist, but the seeker requires models of how these may be networked or integrated to provide consolidated information that is useful to diabetes patients around the world who wish to balance their diet and insulin intake.

This is an Ideation Challenge with a guaranteed award pool of $10,000. The best proposal will receive $5,000 and 1-3 additional awards will be made from the remaining $5,000.
Diabetes patients must balance their insulin intake with their dietary intake of sugars and carbohydrates. Failure to manage this balance can result in life-threatening episodes of disease, both in the short and long term. The Seeker wishes to provide insulin dependent diabetic patients with a validated global database that provides analysis of basic and processed foods relevant to their regional diet. Several commercial databases exist but the cost per region is prohibitive to the Seeker, especially for regions outside of North America and Western Europe.

The Seeker wishes to provide diabetes patients worldwide with a valuable tool. Therefore, models and concepts outlining alternative approaches to consolidate non-commercial food databases are required.

What is an InnoCentive Ideation™ Challenge?

An InnoCentive Ideation™ Challenge is a broad question formulated to obtain access to new ideas, similar to a global brainstorm for producing a breakthrough idea or market survey which may include ideas for a new product line, a new commercial application for a current product, or even a viral marketing idea to recruit new customers. Ideation™ Challenge submissions are typically about two written pages, and Seekers receive a non-exclusive, perpetual license to use all submissions.

In an Ideation™ Challenge, Solvers may:

  • Submit ideas of their own
  • Submit third party information that they have the right to use and further the authority to convey that right and the right to use and develop derivative works to Seekers
  • Submit information considered in the public domain without any limitations on use

Solvers should not reveal any confidential information in their submissions. Often the Ideation™ Challenge will be followed by one or more of the other three Challenge types to further develop the ideas and gain Intellectual Property protection when the concept has been well-defined.
