More than 29 million Americans live with diabetes, a metabolic disorder that is characterized by insufficient production or inadequate utilization of insulin resulting in abnormal fluctuations in blood glucose. For diabetics, self-monitoring of blood glucose is essential for knowing when to make therapy adjustments. In the United States, the blood glucose monitoring industry has experienced a negative growth trend despite an increasing number of patients with diabetes. Roche is looking for innovative ideas and solutions that may help a traditional blood glucose manufacturer, like Roche, reverse this trend while meeting patient needs.

As manufacturer of the Accu-Chek® brand of blood glucose monitoring systems, Roche Diabetes Care is well known for its high quality and accurate diagnostic products for disease management. In recent years, Roche Diabetes Care, as well as other traditional blood glucose manufacturers, has experienced a negative growth trend in the United States. It is postulated that this market decline is substantially due to reduced reimbursements rates by US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Yet Roche remains committed in its goal of offering new blood glucose monitoring solutions to patients with diabetes. To complement its efforts, Roche is looking for innovative ideas and solutions that may help it achieve this goal and reverse the current market trend in the US.

After the Challenge deadline, the Seeker will complete the review process and make a decision with regards to the Winning Solution(s). All Solvers that submit a proposal will be notified on the status of their submissions; however, no detailed evaluation of individual submissions will be provided.
