The Seeker is looking for novel ideas for formulations or additives that stabilize the color of one of its formulated aliphatic polyamides, preventing discoloration under exposure to heat at air at temperatures higher than 150°C.

This is a Reduction-to-Practice Challenge that requires only the submission of written documentation from the Solver. The Seeker will perform the experimental reduction to practice and validation of proposed solutions in order to determine the award.


The Seeker produces various formulated materials based on polyamide 6 and polyamide 66 that are used for technical applications in temperature ranges above 150°C. Over time (after a few weeks), it is observed that the material’s original light color darkens towards a brownish black, and the Seeker’s studies suggest that such discoloration is due to oxidative processes at elevated temperatures. The Seeker has attempted to solve this problem by testing a number of commercially available additives in its formulation (anti-oxidants, etc.) but none was successful.

Hence, the Seeker is challenging Solvers to propose novel ideas for an additive or combination of additive products that can be used to stabilize its products. More details can be found in the Detailed Description section of the Challenge.

Important notices:

  • This is a Reduction-to-Practice Challenge that requires only the submission of written documentation by the Solver. The Challenge award is contingent upon theoretical evaluation and experimental validation by the Seeker. Due to this requirement, experimental validation of results could take up to 6 months.
  • To receive an award, the Solvers will have to transfer to the Seeker their exclusive Intellectual Property (IP) rights to the solution.  However, the Seeker will be willing to consider a licensing agreement for a partial award if exclusive IP cannot be transferred by the Solver.

Challenge Deadline: Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on June 16, 2019.
