Availability of solar radiation across the year is the primary factor that determines suitability for installation of large scale photovoltaic (PV) systems at a given location. However, the abundance of solar radiation comes with the added challenge of increased temperature (both ambient and PV module) resulting in an overall drop in the operational efficiency of the system. Additional measures are necessary to mitigate the negative impact of increased temperature. Hence, the Seeker is interested in obtaining innovative cooling solutions for PV installations.
This Theoretical Challenge requires only a written proposal.
The impact of heat is significantly high for PV systems, especially those situated in desert conditions. Additionally, factors such as topography and lack of rainfall result in prolonged duration of heat through the course of the year, which yields a drop in overall power output. Hence, it is essential to ensure that a PV module operates within the stipulated temperature range to ensure maximum operational efficiency. The Seeker is looking for integrated cooling solutions that will work seamlessly with the existing PV system configuration installed in desert conditions.
This is a Theoretical Challenge that requires only a written proposal to be submitted. The Challenge award will be contingent upon theoretical evaluation of the proposal by the Seeker.
To receive an award, the Solvers will have to transfer their exclusive intellectual property (IP) rights to the Seeker.
Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on December 20, 2021.
Late submissions will not be considered.
ABOUT THE SEEKER
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the exclusive provider of electricity and water services in Dubai. DEWA was formed in 1992 following the merger of the Dubai Electricity Company and the Dubai Water Department which had been operational independently since 1959. DEWA is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity and water across the emirate of Dubai. For more information, please visit https://dewa.gov.ae/en.
What is InnoCentive?
InnoCentive is the global innovation marketplace where creative minds solve some of the world's most important problems for cash awards up to $1 million. Commercial, governmental and humanitarian organizations engage with InnoCentive to solve problems that can impact humankind in areas ranging from the environment to medical advancements.
What is an InnoCentive Theoretical IP Transfer Challenge?
An InnoCentive Theoretical Challenge builds upon an idea but is not yet a proof of concept. A solution to a Theoretical Challenge will solidify the Solver's concept with detailed descriptions, specifications and requirements necessary to bringing a good idea closer to becoming an actual product or service.
This Challenge is a Theoretical IP Transfer Challenge, meaning that Solvers must transfer all rights to the Intellectual Property (IP) for which they are awarded. Solvers that do not win retain the rights to their solution after the evaluation period is complete. The Seeker retains no rights to any IP not awarded.
