Partnership with La Mocherita
Challenge under evaluation

Challenge overview

OVERVIEW

La Mocherita, the Seeker for this Wazoku Crowd Challenge, is seeking a sustainable farming machine and technology partner to streamline material management across their production processes, focusing on nutrient cycling, herd health and manure management.

The current process results in the inability to make use of 6,000 tons of fresh feed every year, and involves the costly disposal of 2,600 m3 effluents every month.

This challenge aims to identify a machinery and technology stack that improves material management throughout the operation.

This is a Scouting Challenge seeking a partner or supplier to provide systems and expertise to solve La Mocherita’s business challenge; the Solver is invited to submit a written proposal to be evaluated by La Mocherita with the goal of establishing a collaborative partnership.

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on May 26th, 2025.

THE CHALLENGE

Background

La Mocherita as a dairy farm was founded with a sustainable feed model, where the diet of over 1,500 dairy cows is supplemented with trimmings, prunings, peel and other cellulosic waste from local fruit and produce businesses. This approach to their diet has been developed over the years to generate high quality milk production on a par with the top farms in the country, and critically setting La Mocherita apart as a partner for these local growers, to fill the gap towards their own fully sustainable production.

The Challenge
There are three sub-topics to the challenge, register your interest in the challenge to gain access to the Problem Details attachment, which details each of the three sub-topics.

You are welcome to submit for one or all of the sub-topics.

La Mocherita seeks to identify a partner to provide commercially available machinery capable of handling 2,000 tons of artichoke bracts a month in order to reduce its moisture content from 90% to 75%.

The machinery must be powered by biomethane produced from anaerobic fermentation of milking parlor effluents.

A wholistic management support system is required to monitor successful material management for feed, herd health and waste management, delivering real time information through the implementation of sensing and monitoring applications throughout the farm operations.

The partner must be capable of providing the engineering design, machinery manufacturing and digitalized control of the operations spanning from feed management, animal monitoring and milking, manure management and fermentation processes.

If commercial options are unavailable, particularly for the control and monitoring integration, suppliers are welcome to subcontract or present an integrated proposal as a consortium.

SOLUTION REQUIREMENTS

You are welcome to submit to one or all of the sub-topics 1-3.

For more detail about the solution requirements for each of the three sub-topics to the challenge, register your interest in the challenge and gain access to the Problem Details attachment.

In summary, La Mocherita is interested in applications from machinery and technology partners that can meet one or all of the following must have requirements:

  1. Drying process suitable to handle 2,000 ton/month artichoke bracts and feed them into silage machinery.
  2. Second generation fermentation machinery for milking parlor effluents; capable of handling 2,600 m3 of effluent per month.
  3. Integration of herd data management information with material and energy flows throughout the farm.
  4. Cost/benefit that is feasible in the emerging, mixed economy of Peru.

Nice to have requirements;

  • The feed drying component
    • could be powered by solar energy
    • does not have to depend on thermal processes

Consortium and/or new component considerations;

  • La Mocherita is totally open to a consortia proposal that integrates solutions from different suppliers and/or developers
  • La Mocherita is open to proposals where some of the components or elements are in development or would require adaptation; please provide extra details as appropriate

Register your interest to see also the attachment Proposals Guidelines, which has more details about the evaluation phases and evaluation criteria.

Solutions with Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 7-9 are invited.

This Scouting Challenge has the following features:

  1. Register your interest to see also the attachment Proposals Guidelines, which has more details about the evaluation phases and evaluation criteria.
  2. La Mocherita and its evaluation team will evaluate your submission to determine their interest to contact you for further business and collaboration discussions.
  3. You will then have scope to negotiate the terms of any contract (including the scope of supply) directly with La Mocherita.
  4. The monetary value of any contract will vary depending on the amount of machinery and technology to be delivered and the agreed-upon time frame.
