OVERVIEW

The Innovation Builders model is designed to compress the traditional innovation pipeline, moving rapidly from problem identification to built solution to commercial opportunity. Delivered in partnership between Wazoku and Topcoder, this Challenge represents the first stage in that pipeline: identifying the highest-value opportunities for AI-driven disruption in enterprise technology.

This opening Challenge, “AI Disruption,” asks a simple but consequential question: which areas of business technology are most exposed to disruption by AI agents, and what does the replacement look like?

This is not a request for incremental AI use cases or feature enhancements. Instead, the focus is on identifying where existing enterprise software is structurally misaligned with the capabilities of modern AI systems—particularly agentic AI—and where entirely new approaches can deliver step-change improvements in cost, performance, or usability.

Submissions should explore disruption across two broad categories:

  1. Incumbent enterprise platforms whose models may be fundamentally challenged by AI agents,
  2. and Net-new solution spaces where agentic systems enable capabilities that do not yet exist in mature form.

The strongest submissions will not only diagnose where disruption is likely to occur, but clearly articulate how it will happen and what replaces the current paradigm in practical, buildable terms.


Your IP Rights are protected in this Prize Challenge; Wazoku and Topcoder must pay you an award to obtain them.

The best solutions will win an award of $250 for meeting all solution requirements and if they are selected for Stage 2: Build Phase. There is scope for one or many proposals to be progressed.

The Challenge requires a written proposal to be submitted, and Awards will be contingent upon the theoretical evaluation of your proposal by Wazoku and Topcoder against the Solution Requirements.

To receive an Award, Solvers are required to grant non-exclusive license rights to the Intellectual Property (IP) in their proposed solution. Solvers will retain all rights to any proposal not Awarded and there is no assignment.

Innovation Builders is a new challenge series co-created by Wazoku/Innocentive and Topcoder, built around a single organizing principle: moving rapidly (2-4 weeks) from sourcing qualified needs to building solutions, ready for showcasing.

The result is a pipeline that produces real, buildable, market-ready solutions — not reports. Solvers and builders who participate have direct exposure to the commercial pathway from the outset.

The Challenge is open to individuals, teams, startups, and organizations globally. Solvers from diverse domains (including enterprise software, AI/ML, operations, consulting, and product design) are encouraged to participate.

Employees of Wazoku, Topcoder, and their affiliated organizations are not eligible to receive awards for this Challenge.


THE CHALLENGE

Background

Enterprise software has historically been built around structured workflows, human input, and modular architectures, often monetized through per-seat or per-module pricing. Platforms such as CRM, ERP, HCM, and ITSM systems have dominated business operations for decades. These were built for a world of human-executed tasks and rigid process structures.

However, recent advances in large language models and agentic AI systems are beginning to challenge these assumptions. AI agents are increasingly capable of reasoning across unstructured data, orchestrating multi-step workflows, and executing tasks autonomously with minimal human intervention.

For example, recent industry developments have demonstrated:

  • AI agents are capable of automating end-to-end customer support workflows, reducing reliance on traditional ticketing systems.
    • Autonomous tools that can generate reports, conduct research, and synthesize insights without predefined workflows.
    • Early-stage platforms exploring AI-native enterprise operations, where tasks are executed dynamically rather than through static process design.

At the same time, enterprise dissatisfaction with existing systems remains high: driven by complex implementations, high total cost of ownership, rigid workflows, and low user adoption. As AI capabilities improve, the limitations of legacy systems become more visible and more costly.

This Challenge is rooted in that convergence. The question is not whether AI will be applied to enterprise software (it already is), but where it fundamentally replaces existing approaches.

The Challenge

Solvers are asked to identify and describe high-value disruption opportunities where AI agents can fundamentally reshape or replace current enterprise technology solutions.

Submissions should focus on one (or more) of the following disruption types:

1. Incumbent Platform Displacement

Identify existing categories or platforms where the current model is structurally misaligned with AI capabilities. This may include issues such as:

a) Reliance on manual configuration or rigid workflows

b) Pricing models that scale with users rather than outcomes

c) Fragmented data or poor interoperability

d) High operational overhead relative to delivered value

We are not asking whether these companies will survive. We are asking which specific capabilities, modules, or pricing assumptions are most exposed, and what replaces them. For these cases, Solvers should clearly articulate:

  • Why the current model breaks down in an AI-native world
  • How agentic systems can replicate or outperform core functionality
  • What a replacement architecture or product experience would look like


2. Net-New Solution Spaces

Identify areas where no adequate solution currently exists, but where AI agents enable entirely new capabilities. Think areas where the right answer is a clean-sheet agentic design, rather than adding AI wrappers to legacy software. Examples might include:

a) Intelligent procurement systems that autonomously source and negotiate

b) Agentic compliance platforms that continuously interpret and enforce regulation

c) Autonomous research or knowledge operations

For these cases, Solvers should define:

  • The unmet need or inefficiency
  • Why existing tools fail to address it
  • How an AI-native approach creates a viable new category

Across both categories, submissions should go beyond high-level speculation. The goal is to produce clear, structured, and buildable concepts that can be translated into working prototypes in Stage 2.

Submissions should identify one or more specific disruption zones and make a rigorous, well-structured case for each. We are interested in any of the following:

  • Specific incumbent platform disruption — which enterprise software categories, vendors, or commercial models are most exposed, and why? What does an agentic alternative do that the incumbent structurally cannot?
  • Vertical industry disruption — where an entire sector faces restructuring (e.g. insurance underwriting, clinical trial management, legal discovery, financial reconciliation)
  • Horizontal functional disruption — where a business function is disrupted regardless of industry (e.g. procurement, talent acquisition, financial close, customer operations, IT service management)
  • Commercial model disruption — where the pricing and licensing architecture of existing software becomes untenable (per-seat models, per-module fees, high implementation costs) and a new model emerges
  • Net-new solution categories — entirely new solution spaces enabled by AI agents, where there is no viable prior solution to displace

Selected submissions may progress to:

  • Stage 2: Topcoder build challenge, where you or others are invited to build agentic or AI-coded solutions to the stated problem spaces sourced from this Challenge.
  • Stage 3: Vendor showcase with commercialisation exposure, where the strongest solutions are given direct exposure to potential commercial partners, customers, and investors.

The most compelling responses will demonstrate a strong combination of insight (why disruption could occur), mechanism (how it happens), and design (what replaces it).


SOLUTION REQUIREMENTS

Each submission must address three core components:

  • The Problem: What specific system, workflow, or category is being disrupted?
  • Mechanism of Disruption: How and why AI agents enable a fundamentally better approach
  • Replacement Model: What the new solution looks like in practice

Must-Have Requirements

  1. The target: name and describe the specific enterprise platform, category, function, or solution space
  2. A well-reasoned explanation of why current solutions are inadequate, including: what specifically about the architecture, model, or functionality fails in today’s agentic era? Is it pricing, human workflow assumptions, data, integration, or another factor?
  3. The agentic advantage: detail what AI agents may enable here that the incumbent cannot replicate (without rebuilding from scratch). You should provide a credible description of the AI-driven mechanism of disruption.
  4. A concrete replacement concept, described at a conceptional level (no need to build yet!) but in functional terms: how does it work, what does it achieve, how does it price, what are the required integrations, and who would build or operate it?
  5. Scale of the opportunity: scope or model the quantifiable disruption impact (e.g. cost savings, process acceleration, revenue at risk, reduced headcount, or addressable market size)
  6. Buildability: could a developer team feasibly build a working proof-of-concept for this? What would the core technical components be?
  7. Barriers and risks: provide discussion of adoption barriers and go-to-market considerations (e.g. integration complexity, regulatory constraints, or user buy-in) to demonstrate commercial viability

Topcoder and Wazoku are also interested in solutions that display the following nice-to-have requirements:

  1. Quantification of potential impact (cost savings, efficiency gains, etc.)
  2. Awareness of technical constraints (data, integration, governance)
  3. Examples or references to emerging tools, startups, or trends
  4. Clear articulation of why the idea is buildable within a short development cycle

Submissions with the above must-have requirements will be assessed across the following dimensions: specificity and precision; quality of structural analysis; mechanism of agentic advantage; originality; replacement vision; and buildability.


YOUR SUBMISSION

Submissions are provided via a structured online form. Each submission must include the following fields:

  1. Title of Disruption Area
  2. Incumbent vs. Net-New: select one or both categories and explain your classification
  3. Problem Statement: what specific system, workflow, or category is being disrupted, and why is it misaligned with an AI-native future?
  4. Mechanism of Disruption: how and why AI agents enable a fundamentally better approach, with quantification or modelling of impact
  5. Replacement Vision: key features, value proposition, and a rough business case for the agentic replacement
  6. Impact Assessment: who is affected, value unlocked, urgency, and estimated timeframe
  7. Adoption Barriers, Risks, and Go-to-Market Considerations: integration, regulation, user buy-in, or other factors that you feel could affect commercial viability
  8. Supporting Evidence or Rationale: data, examples, case studies, or references to relevant tools or trends
  9. Expert Profile: your capabilities to progress to Stage 2 and build your proposed disruptive tool. You are not required to take part in Stage 2, if this is not your skillset.
  10. Attachments: there is room to add further information.

Submissions should be clear, concise, and written in English. There is no requirement for technical prototypes at this stage: submissions are expected at the ideation and early analysis stage (Technology Readiness Levels 1-3). Ideas should, however, be sufficiently detailed to inform a build phase.

Solvers whose Stage 1 submissions inform the final Stage 2 problem set will be credited throughout the pipeline. We will share the outcomes of Stage 2 and Stage 3 back with the Stage 1 community.

The vendor showcase is a real commercial event. The best solutions will have direct exposure to organizations looking to adopt or invest in agentic enterprise technology. This is not a theoretical exercise.


PARTICIPATION GUIDANCE

  1. Submission Close Date: Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on April 27, 2026.
  2. Late submissions: Late submissions will not be considered.
  3. Multiple submissions, 3 Maximum: In case of multiple submissions by the same Solver, only 3 submissions – the final 3 submitted – will be considered. Any other submissions will be deleted prior to evaluation.
  4. Submission form and attachments: Your submission will be evaluated by the evaluation team first reviewing the information and content you have submitted at the submission form, with attachments used as additional context to your form submission. Submissions relying solely on attachments will receive less attention from the evaluation team.
  5. Evaluation notification steps: After the Challenge submission close date, Wazoku and Topcoder will review and select the winning ideas/solutions rapidly, with reference to the dates in the Challenge header. Everyone who submits a proposal will be notified about the status of their submissions.
  6. Use of AI: Please note that any submissions produced solely with generative AI are not of interest.
