​OVERVIEW

InoCrowd are hosting an open innovation Challenge around modernizing construction and supporting the buildings, infrastructure, and cities of the future.

Startups, scaleups, spinoffs, R&D centers, and universities are invited to apply to the ConTech call promoted by MEXT: Mota-Engil Next.

Your solution will be evaluated by a panel of experts, and then 10 solutions will complete an online pitch event on the 29th October, 2024. Following this pitch, 5 finalists will be announced on the 31st October, and these finalists will progress to a Demo Day with executives from the Mota-Engil Group and partner institutions – hosted in Porto, Portugal, postponed now to 2025.

The Seeker will provide rewards to the winning teams or individuals, including:

  1. Pitch event experience, both online for longlisted teams and in-person for the 5 finalists;
  2. Possible collaboration with the Seeker;
  3. and Testing and validation of a solution in a pilot on a Mota-Engil construction site.

Background

The ConTech Call promoted by MEXT: Mota-Engil Next aims to support innovative solutions to modernize construction and foster a paradigm shift in how we conceptualize, design, and build the cities and the infrastructures of the future.

MEXT is an accelerator and promoter of local and global transformation for Mota-Engil (ME) Group, giving voice to all stakeholders by creating ideas with a positive impact on business and our people, society, sustainability and everyday life. Our innovation efforts are aimed at Industry Transformation amongst ME Group segments (Engineering and Construction, Environment and Services, Transport concession, Energy and Mining), overall Efficiency of Processes and Enhanced Productivity and Business Model Innovation, deeply aligned with Sustainability goals.

We are looking for solutions in 4 categories:

1. GREEN CONSTRUCTION:

  • Built environment decarbonization

2. ENHANCED PRODUCTIVITY:

  • Project planning, monitoring & control
  • Health & Safety compliance and mitigation

  • Project Bidding optimization

3. CONSTRUCTION SUPPLY CHAIN:

  • Procurement
  • Materials & resources marketplaces (labor, equipment or materials)
  • Logistic tools & materials tracking
  • Inventory management & onsite handling

4. FUTURE OF CONSTRUCTION:

  • 3D printing & additive manufacturing
  • Industrialized & automatized processes (offsite, modular, precast, rebar...)
  • Robotics & machine assisted applications
  • Optimization of materials manufacturing (mixes, coatings, binders, etc.)
  • Smart cities & buildings

SOLUTION REQUIREMENTS

The solutions must fulfill the following criteria: 

  • Stage of development from PoC to growth stage
  • Address a challenge in the construction industry (B2B)
  • With the capacity to test your solution in one of Mota-Engil's markets (Portugal, Angola, Mozambique, Nigeria, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, or other)
  • And the potential to scale and operate the solution globally


TIMELINE

  • Due Date for Applications: Until 13th October.
  • Jury Session: 10 solutions will pitch online for a judging panel on the 29th October. Communication of the 5 finalists on the 31st of October.
  • Demo Day: 5 finalists will proceed for the Demo Day and pitch for a large panel of executive from Mota-Engil Group and partners institutions, hybrid format at M-ODU (M-ODU powered by Emerge Mota-Engil) in Porto, Portugal (now postponed to 2025).
