Extending Wind Blades to Maximize Power Production

Enel Green Power (EGP) is a global leader company in the development and management of energy production from renewable sources, with a total installed capacity of 52 GW based on an integrated portfolio composed of wind, solar, hydroelectric and geothermal technologies. Wind turbines generate clean energy by harnessing wind power, and EGP desires a retrofit solution to extend turbine blades within existing wind farms to maximize power production. This is an electronic Request-for-Partners (eRFP) Challenge; the Solver will need to submit a written proposal to be evaluated by the Seeker with a goal of establishing a collaborative partnership.   OVERVIEW Among the renewables, wind energy is growing more and more popular worldwide. The wind energy market has experienced an exponential growth in the last few decades, with thousands of wind turbines having been installed every year worldwideglobally. Predictions indicate that the trend will go on for many more years, keeping wind energy at the forefront of renewable energy generation worldwide and helping the world to have safe, reliable, sustainable and cheap energy. In this scenario, the research for a way to make wind turbines (WT) more efficient and competitive becomes paramount. Enel Green Power is looking for innovative and technical solutions to increase the length of wind turbine blades, with a consequent increase in Annual Energy Production. What is an eRFP Challenge? An InnoCentive eRFP Challenge allows Seekers to submit Requests for Proposals for a partner or supplier to provide materials or expertise to solve a business challenge by leveraging the InnoCentive Solver network. This global community includes organizations and individuals, such as contract research organizations, scientists, university researchers, and technology companies. After a Solver submits an eRFP response, the Seeker evaluates the responses to determine which Solver(s) to contact for further business discussions. With eRFPs, the Solver must not provide any confidential information in the eRFP response. If your eRFP response is selected, you negotiate the terms of the contract (including scope of work, tasks and duration) directly with the Seeker. This Challenge type does not require Intellectual Property (IP) transfer. However, sometimes Seekers request that certain IP arrangements be made should a partnership be formed.

Safeguarding Biodiversity Prior to the Installation of Electric Distribution Assets

Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks S.r.l. is looking for collaboration partners to provide an innovative approach that will respect biodiversity when developing new assets (installation of overhead electrical lines and/or substations). This is an electronic Request-for-Partners (eRFP) Challenge; the Solver will need to submit a written proposal to be evaluated by the Seeker with a goal of establishing a collaborative partnership.   OVERVIEW We are engaged in a very challenging project that concerns the impact minimization of electric assets. These include overhead lines (high voltage and medium voltage, often with bare conductors) and substations crossing urban/rural/forest areas. The general framework is the No Net Biodiversity Loss approach: this is in order to estimate the effect on biodiversity and to promote its protection during the installation of electric infrastructure. The aim is to restore the areas involved and to offset the residual impacts, so that no loss remains. Our goal is to collect ideas/methodologies for minimizing the effect on biodiversity in the construction of the new asset and to optimize the offsetting in terms of land occupancy and economic effort. Advanced Wildfire Detection at Power Plants

A wildfire is a destructive and uncontrolled fire in an area of combustible vegetation. Causes of wildfire include lightning, human carelessness (e.g. campfires, fireworks, smoldering cigarettes), and burning debris. Recently, climate change and drought have contributed to an increasing number of wildfires, thus, Enel Green Power is searching for a technology to be installed upon renewable power plant properties, which can provide ultra-early detection of these events. This Theoretical Challenge requires only a written proposal.   OVERVIEW The environmental challenges the world faces nowadays have never been greater and more complex. Global areas covered by forests and urban woodlands are threatened by natural disasters that have increased dramatically during the last decades, in terms of both frequency and magnitude. Large-scale forest fires are one of the most harmful natural hazards affecting climate change and life around the world. Thus, to minimize their impacts on people and nature, the adoption of well-planned and closely coordinated effective prevention, early warning, and response approaches are necessary. In this scenario we would like to leverage on the presence of renewable power plants to provide ultra-early fire detection solutions for public and private forests. The systems -to be installed in the power plants’ areas- should also be able to detect fire within the power plant area as well as the surrounding areas. This Challenge provides contribution to the following SDGs: •      SDG 9, 11, 15 – Register now to start solving this Challenge! This is a Theoretical Challenge, which requires only a written proposal to be submitted. The Challenge award will be contingent upon theoretical evaluation of the submission by the Seeker. To receive an award, the Solvers will not have to transfer the exclusive IP rights to the Seeker. Instead, Solver will grant to the Seeker a non-exclusive license to practice their solutions. The final award for this Challenge is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the verification process, including acceptance of the Challenge-Specific Agreement (CSA) that is the regulation for this Challenge. The verification process includes obtaining the following from the Solver: signed affidavit (based on the CSA), employee waiver (if applicable), proof of identify, and any required document required by Enel to perform internal Solver assessment. Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (Central European Time) on January 9, 2022.  Late submissions will not be considered. After the Challenge deadline, the Seeker will complete the review process and make a decision with regards to the Winning Solution(s).
