Challenge overview

Clinical trials are used to assess the effect of specific medical interventions in humans and participants are recruited for these studies based upon eligibility criteria. Before a trial starts, research sites are selected by a process known as clinical trial feasibility. The Seeker desires new tools to optimize site selection and accurately predict patient enrollment.

This is an Ideation Challenge with a guaranteed award for at least one submitted solution.

The cost of drug development includes initial research and development as well as clinical research studies prior to approval and registration. Clinical trials are necessary for monitoring the safety and effectiveness of treatment, but the phases of testing often take many years. If the duration of the trials could be shortened, this could result not only in overall cost reduction, but also in giving patients faster access to new medicines. One aspect that may delay the completion of a trial is insufficient patient recruitment. Therefore, the Seeker desires new approaches to mitigate risk and increase the predictability of clinical trial feasibility.

This is an Ideation Challenge, which has the following unique features:

  • There is a guaranteed award.  The award(s) will be paid to the best submission(s) as solely determined by the Seeker. The total payout will be $12,000, with at least one award being no smaller than $5,000 and no award being smaller than $2,000.
  • By submitting a proposal, the Solver grants to the Seeker a royalty-free, perpetual, and non-exclusive license to use any information included in this proposal, including for promotional purposes. Furthermore, Solvers may be asked to transfer exclusive intellectual property rights to the Seeker following a separate negotiation to establish compensation for such transfer.

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on June 25, 2018.

Late submissions will not be considered.

After the Challenge deadline, the Seeker will complete the review process and make a decision with regards to the Winning Solution(s). All Solvers that submit a proposal will be notified on the status of their submissions; however, no detailed evaluation of individual submissions will be provided.
