A software module & its client side and server side source code are required for assessment of collaborative problem solving skills in schools. The Seeker envisages a multiplayer Flash game template & GUI that can export process log-files that describe user actions to other software modules which will eventually be part of the system. A range of open source and proprietary software is currently available for developing collaborative gaming scenarios. The Seeker anticipates that code from existing software could be adapted for this Challenge.

This is a Reduction-to-Practice Challenge that requires a written proposal and delivery of a working software module and code. More details are available in the detailed Challenge description.

A fully-functioning software module & client side and server side source code are required for use in a system to assess collaborative problem solving skills in schools. The Seeker envisages a multiplayer Flash game template & GUI that can support a range of problem-solving tasks or ‘games’ for multiple students in remote locations who can interact in real-time to create solutions to each task. The software should enable the export of data that describe time-stamped user actions and messaging to other software modules which will eventually be part of an integrated system. A range of software is currently available for developing real-time collaborative gaming scenarios. The Seeker anticipates that code from existing software could be adapted for this Challenge. 

The submission to the Challenge should include the following: 

  1. The detailed description of the proposed Solution addressing specific Solution Requirements presented in the Detailed Description of the Challenge.  This description should be accompanied by a well-articulated rationale supported by literature/patent precedents.
  2. Experimental proof-of-concept data obtained as outlined in the Detailed Description of the Challenge and delivery of a material sample.   

The award is contingent upon the seeker’s theoretical evaluation and experimental validation of the submitted source code. 

To receive an award, the Solvers will not have to transfer their exclusive IP rights to the Seeker.  Instead, they will grant to the Seeker non-exclusive license to practice their solutions.  Any winning software will be will be in the public domain and able to be used freely by educational users in development of assessment tasks.
