Challenge overview

The Seeker is looking to identify mechanisms, or technologies, that shall enable highly accurate analytical mass quantification of sub milligram-scale aliquots of powders. Such methods could include weighing or spectroscopic technologies, or any other suitable technology. Key requirements are that the method is amenable to rapid measurement frequency, returning accurate and reproducible mass determinations. The methodology should be applicable to a wide range of powdered (granular) materials.

This Challenge requires only a written proposal.

How can the Seeker employ technology to accurately determine the quantity of a powder, in sub-milligram (sub-mg) range, during or after its dispensing into an appropriate receptacle?

The Seeker believes that suitable technologies probably exist in industries and applications outside the scope of their knowledge, but is also open to proposals describing truly novel technologies.  Multiple award options are possible.

Suitable methods must be able to return highly accurate measurements and be scalable to a wide range of powder compositions. The Seeker has some awareness of technologies and methods for this application – these, and their limitations, are summarised within the detailed challenge description.

This is a Theoretical Challenge that requires only a written proposal to be submitted.  The Challenge award will be contingent upon theoretical evaluation of the proposal by the Seeker.

To receive an award, the Solvers will not have to transfer their exclusive IP rights to the Seeker.  Instead, they will grant to the Seeker non-exclusive license to practice their solutions. 

Solvers making detailed proposals describing patented technologies for which they may not transfer non-exclusive IP-rights are valuable to the Seeker and may qualify for a ‘Finder’s Fee’ award.
