RUSAL Challenge: Searching for Partners with Technologies for Processing and Valorization of Carbon-Fluorine Containing Waste

5 Submissions
Challenge closed

Challenge overview

UC RUSAL wishes to identify partners that have or can develop technology to process carbon-fluorine waste resulting from refractory linings in the aluminium production process and that can lead to:

  1. in-house reuse of materials/elements in the aluminium production process; or
  2. a new commodity to be used in other industries and applications.

This is an electronic Request-for-Partners (eRFP) Challenge; the Solver will only need to submit a written proposal to be evaluated by the Seeker with the goal of establishing a collaborative partnership.

Refractory linings are used in many industrial processes and equipment in order to withstand the typically high temperatures that are found in furnaces, kilns, etc. This is also the case in the aluminium industry. A consequence of the use of such materials is the production of waste. Up to 100,000 tonnes per year of this carbon-fluorine containing waste are collected and stored at the Seeker’s sites with no further processing, since no economically advantageous application and/or product with commercial demand has yet been identified.

UC RUSAL wishes to identify partners that have or can develop the technology to process this waste, leading to:

  1. in-house reuse of materials/elements in the aluminium production process; or
  2. a new commodity to be used in other industries and applications.

This is an electronic Request-for-Partners (eRFP) Challenge. The Solver will write a preliminary proposal (including supporting non-confidential information and contact details) to be evaluated by the Seeker with a goal of establishing a collaborative partnership. Upon completion of the evaluation, the Seeker may contact selected Solvers directly to work out terms for a collaboration contract. The monetary value of the contract will vary depending on the amount of work to be delivered and the agreed upon time frame.

NOTE: Only proposals from Solvers who have the ability to work as the collaboration partner will be considered.

Submissions to this Challenge must be received by 11:59 PM (US Eastern Time) on December 4, 2017.

Late submissions will not be considered.
