Challenge overview

“Science consistently produces a new crop of miraculous truths and dazzling devices every year!” - Kary Mullis, Innovator of the Polymerase Chain Reaction

Unfortunately, most of them are not game-changers. The Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) was and it heralded the beginning of the genomic revolution. This Challenge is your chance to outline the game changing innovations that the pharma industry needs to adopt. You don’t need to invent the solution; you just need to clearly describe what is already out there that has the potential to become ‘the next big thing’ that will help make the Pharma industry more productive in finding the drugs of tomorrow.

This is an Ideation Challenge with a guaranteed award for at least one submitted solution.

The pharmaceutical industry develops drugs to cure and ameliorate diseases. R&D productivity has gone down in the last decades, and while R&D spending has increased, the number of new drugs brought to market per year has stayed constant.. It is becoming increasingly clear that pharmaceutical companies need to change the ways in which they discover, develop, test and market new drugs.

What are the ‘game changing’ innovations that the pharma industry needs to adopt in order to continue delivering therapies that improve lives? Your ideas and opinions are requested. You do not need to be a pharmaceutical industry expert – it is highly likely that insights from other industries and patients are extremely valid.

More details and a list of specific hurdles faced across the pharma industry are included in the detailed challenge description.
